Whales and dolphins (cetaceans) are very intelligent animals that are sensitive to any type of disturbance. They are at risk from collisions with vessels and even more so, their propellers. If they approach the boat or bow-ride (swim alongside the front of a vessel), maintain course and a constant slow speed until clear. Cetaceans should never be chased or harassed in an attempt to encourage them to bow-ride. When watching cetaceans, always let them decide what happens, and please adhere to the following guidlines:
Keep your distance, avoid going closer than 100m (200m if another boat is present).
Never drive head on, between, scatter or separate cetaceans. If unsure of their movements, simply stop and put your vessel's engine into neutral.
Please spend no longer than 15 minutes near the animals.
Special care must be taken with mothers and young.
Maintain a steady direction and slow speed (no wake).
Never try to swim with cetaceans for your own safety and theirs, remember, they are wild animals.
Do not dispose of any rubbish, litter or contaminants into the sea.
